It finally came in the mail!

October 22, 2006

I was just lamenting about the long wait for the gongfu set I ordered from China. I was half sure it was going to come any day, and half sure that I’d never see it, since we’re moving to a new house in one week.

Our neighbor came to the door this afternoon with a package that had been delivered to the building. It was definitely from China, and it had my name on it! I have been thrilled all day, but am unfortunately out of good tea to try it out with! Here it is: one teapot, one very tiny gaiwan, one serving vessel, and 10 cups, all porcelain.

Of course there are a few other things I need to pick up. I still want aroma cups very much, but it’s going to have to wait until we’re done with the expenses of moving. Utensils, including a strainer, tongs, a scoop, and a pick – I can get those at the tea shop. And a yixing pot, of course.

When we move into the new house, my husband is commandeering the garage as a wood and metal shop, and he is intent on making me a gongfu tray out of a tree round. This is one of the great benefits of being able to share tea with him and get him excited about it – I get a custom piece for my collection, made with love. He gets an awesome project that he can pour his artistic energy into. And then we get to share it.
